Dr. Ellenbogen is Chairman of the Division of Cardiology, Kontos Professor of Medicine, and Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia. He earned his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship in cardiology at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Ellenbogen is a senior editor of the journal PACE and sits on the editorial board of a number of publications, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, American Heart Journal, Circulation, the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, and Heart Rhythm. His academic, clinical, and research efforts include an interest in newer, more effective ways to perform ablation and to develop methods for ablation of atrial fibrillation. He is involved in the development of new types of pacemakers and exploring the role of pacemakers in treating congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation.
